INTRODUCTION :

Mount Abu is located in the south-western corner of Rajasthan. It is one of the major pilgrimage sites of India for both Hindu as well as Jains. This place is famous for temples and sites of historical importance. Mount Abu is rich in natural scenic beauties. According to the folklores, Mount Abu was also the home of many saints and sages in ancient times. According to the legends, all the three hundred and thirty million gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon used to visit this holy mountain. For those who like Walking, Mount Abu has many delightful walks. Nakki Lake, said to have been carved out by the gods with their nails, is a favorite spot for boating.

Mount Abu is a hill station in a 1200 metre high plateau in the south of Rajasthan. The main attractions of Mount Abu are the three Dilwara Jain Temples about 5 km from the town. The oldest temple dates from 1031. Mount Abu is a famous hill station in Rajasthan and is also a pilgrimage because of the temples.

HISTORY :

Mount Abu was once a part of the Chauhan kingdom of Rajasthan and served as a summer resort for the Rajput kings of the region. During the British rule in India, it used to be the favorite summer destination of the British who came here to escape the dusty, dry heat of the plains particularly Rajasthan. This place is held in reverence by Jains as well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu and blessed the city. Mount Abu has a superb climate throughout the year. And because of this reason only Mount Abu can be visited all through the year.

ROAD

Mount Abu is 223 km from Jodhpur and is connected to all the major cities in Rajasthan by road. Regular buses and taxis ply on this road. From Mumbai, Mount Abu is 627 km long.

RAIL

The nearest railway station is Abu Road situated on Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Ajmer-Jaipur-Delhi route. From Abu Road one can take a taxi, jeep or bus to Mount Abu
